Divers plunge into Madison Scott mystery (Prince George Citizen)

An RCMP dive team was scanning the water of Hogsback Lake, Friday, with eyes open for Madison Scott, a missing young woman.

She was last seen at the popular recreation spot south of Vanderhoof at about 3 a.m. May 29 at a party. She, like many from the general area, was camping at the lake for the weekend. She was reported missing by family when she did not return Sunday afternoon as expected.

“We had the dive team out on the lake [Friday], using sonar. They will be out on the water for eight to nine hours,” said provincial RCMP spokesman Sgt. Rob Vermeulen.

“We will be using a diver to check the water around the campsite. That is not based on any information, it is standard search procedure when we have a mystery like this. When you don’t have a particular lead, you have to work at ruling things out. We had the ground and surface water search, including from the air, and now we are checking in the water around the camping area.”

Police are following up on several tips, but no strong lead. A rumour about her cell phone being used at 7 a.m. the day she disappeared was baseless, said Vermeulen, but “there are all kinds of rumours and we have to follow up on everything we hear.”

“I know the family is still searching the area, with the help of friends and supporters,” said Vermeulen

. “They are keeping in very close contact with our investigators, yes.”

A fund has been set up at all branches of Integris Credit Union to gather donations for a more exhaustive private search.

“It is healthy,” said Integris spokesman Dan Wingham of the sentiments brought forward by the public.

There are branches of Integris in Prince George, Vanderhoof, Fort St. James, Quesnel and Clinton.

The volunteer search team was busy again

. Road and trail searches with vehicles and 4 wheelers continue ranging from the Mapes and Blackwater, including the community pasture,  the normal road system and logging roads in the Vanderhoof, Fraser lake and Cluculz Lake areas. The helicopter funded by generous donations continues the air search.

Madison Scott Fundraiser Taking Place in Vanderhoof Saturday

Prince George, B.C.- Vanderhoof residents are pulling together to help raise money to help fund the search for Madison Scott. Family friend, Kelly Ross, is organizing a dance tomorrow night at the Buffalo Beach Bar in Vanderhoof. “I helped with the search Monday, on Tuesday driving to work, it just felt wrong.” “My life was going back to normal and things are not normal, we still have a young girl missing.” She says she felt hosting a fundraiser would be a great way to help the family raise money to keep the search going

. Doors open at 9 and tickets can be purchased on site. Madison Scott was last seen at 3am May 28th. Police want to speak to anyone who spent some time at Hogsback Lake last weekend.

Thursday June 2nd Search Summary

The volunteer search group of family and friends did an extensive grid search of the Mapes pit  as well as mini grid searches of most of the roads and trails in that area. Road and trail searches by 4 wheelers and vehicles continues to expand outwards.  The private helicopter funded by donations continues the air search

. The RCMP directed Search and Rescue to do further searches in the Mapes Blackwater area.

Family remains optimistic as search for Vanderhoof woman ends (from The Province)

The family of Vanderhoof’s Madison Scott is “astounded” by all the support it’s received in the wake of her disappearance.

Scott, 20, was last seen at a party at Hogsback Lake, 25 kilometres south of Vanderhoof, around 3 a.m. on Saturday. She was reported missing on Sunday.

Vanderhoof RCMP and search and rescue teams from Vanderhoof, Prince George, Burns Lake and Fort St. James conducted extensive air, water and ground searches on Sunday and Monday.

The area is a former forestry campsite, which also has a parking lot and boat launch area, and is popular with locals.

The physical search was called off Tuesday but the police investigation continues.

Scott’s brother, Ben, said family members were out searching with volunteers — more than 150 searched the shorelines, trails and the logging roads — and have been distributing posters.

The family also set up an account to collect donations toward the air searches that were conducted. The account number is 80234286 and contributions can be made at any credit union.

“It’s obviously been a tough time for our whole family but [we] are just astounded with all of the support we have received from friends, family and members of our community,” he said in an email.

“We are keeping our hopes high and remain optimistic that we will find her.”

Ben said everyone is missing his sister: “She is a special person that has impacted many people.”

Scott is Caucasian, five-foot-four, 170 pounds with ginger hair. She was last seen wearing a black T-shirt and blue jean capris.

She was driving an off-white early 1990s model F-150 pickup and had a two-tone blue tent — both were left behind.

Police want to speak to anyone who was in the area on the weekend or attended the parties on Friday or Saturday night.

“It is important that we determine what happened that night, what her plans were for Saturday and the rest of the weekend,” RCMP spokesman Sgt. Rob Vermeulen said. “We have conducted some interviews, but it is important that we speak to anyone and everyone who will help piece together the bigger picture

. We still have many questions, as does Madison’s family.”

Search Resumes for Missing Vanderhoof Woman (from 94X and The Wolf News)

Efforts to find a missing 20 year old woman from Vanderhoof have been renewed today.  The search for Madison Scott was called off earlier this week so RCMP could conduct interviews.  Search and Rescue will scour roadways around Hogsback Lake where she was last seen Saturday morning.  The camping area where Madison was staying has been examined and the Underwater Recovery Team has been called in.  Sergeant Rob Vermeulen says no decision has been made about whether or not an underwater search will take place.  “I can tell you I know family and friends are continuing their search efforts and the family did want us to express their thanks to Vanderhoof area residents, you know, for their support in their search efforts,” says Sergeant Vermeulen.  Investigators would still like to speak to peole who attended parties at Hogsback Lake last Friday May 27th and Saturday May 28th.  Call Vanderhoof RCMP at (250) 567-2222 with any information.

Family keeps up search for missing Vanderhoof woman : The Province

Family and friends of a 20-year-old Vanderhoof woman who went missing from a popular camping and party spot continue to scour the area for clues to her disappearance five days ago.

The official search effort was called off Tuesday, but those close to Madison Scott haven’t abandoned the search and RCMP are still investigating.

“Search and rescue will conduct further searches of some roadways in the vicinity of Hogsback Lake over the next few days,” said Sgt. Rob Vermeulen in a statement Thursday.

“The family asked the RCMP to pass along that they wish to thank Vanderhoof area residents for their generous financial support for the helicopter that has been used in their search effort,” he said.

An account has been set up for donations toward the helicopter search

The area is a former forestry campsite, which also has a parking lot and boat launch area, and is popular with locals.

Vermeulen said a forensics team has examined the camping area and a dive team was called in to assess whether an underwater search is warranted.

Police are also still interviewing people who were around the campsite on the weekend of May 27 and 28, when Scott was last seen there.

Scott is described as white, five-foot-four, 170 pounds, with ginger hair. She was last seen wearing a black T-shirt and capri-style blue jeans.

Her off-white early 1990s model F-150 Ford pickup and a two-tone blue tent were left at the site.
