  • Was the Sinkut lake road and the Lakes Road searched? It is a connector road to Kenny Dam… I drove it and saw very little evidence that it had been searched!

    • Hi Diane,

It was searched but not thoroughly by foot. A good foot search involves 2 or more people walking at slow pace in line along the edge of the road, the ditch and to property edge or crown forest. As they walk scanning the ground between the people on either side. The spacing depends on how thick the ground vegetation is. If there is enough people we often go 2 or three people deep into the forest. You could organize a crew to do this or get more people out on the week end so we would have enough bodies to included this area.

      Thanks,

      Murray Scott

Hi, we live on Sinkut Lake Road and there are some yellow flags. What do the flags mean – how far in (off the road) and how wide from the flag has been searched? Is there a formula for that? I’ve done some ditch scanning from blackwater to Hargraves, but I’m usually by myself so I don’t think it’s very thorough. Scott and I went on the ATV down to the lake from the mailboxes, too, but just scanned either side of the trail. I’ve checked our lagoons, too, since they are close to the road.

At any rate, your info to Diane helps us to know how to do a better search on our own property, too, so thanks for that.

  • The yellow flags could mean several things. Initially when volunteers drove all the roads looking for any tracks down side roads and trails, any time they drove down a side road they would flag the start of the road so if some one else was in the same area they would know the road was driven. Where they turned around down the road was also flagged.

When doing a walking grid search the start and end of the search path is flagged, often the date and size of the team is written on the flag. The outside perimeter of the search is flagged regularly so if another pass is done it can follow those flags.

  • I will do my best to gather a group of six to eight ppl and head out Saturday morning! I will mark everything we cover and sign and date the ribbon! Then I will drop you a note on here telling you the area we covered!
