Dawn and Eldon Poker Ride thank you letter

May 30, 2012

Dear Editor

Re: Anniversary poker ride event for Madison Scott, missing since May 28, 2011 We are overwhelmed with the success of the poker ride for our daughter, Maddy, held May 26 at the Hogsback Lake campsite near Vanderhoof where she mysteriously went missing over a year ago. The poker ride was held to keep the awareness going that she is still missing. Our thanks go out to the participants; over 300 ATVʼs, 90 horses and riders and 130 walkers!

We are so thankful for the generosity of the Mapes Hall Association and the Mapes community for helping to host this event. And we couldnʼt have started this event without our Team Maddy, comprised of family and friends, who planned, organized and held this event to continue with hope that Maddy will be found.

We also thank the businesses and individuals who donated generously toward this event with prizes, resources and support. Thank you many times over to all of the participants, businesses and volunteers who made this event successful.

Our appreciation also goes out to the RCMP who have worked intensively on Maddyʼs case this past year

. After a difficult and heartbreaking year our biggest request remains that whoever knows the truth lets it be known so we can have our daughter home. We are confident that, living in an area of kind, generous and compassionate people, that Maddy will be home soon. Thank you to everyone, this past year, that has helped us continue our search for her.

Sincerely and gratefully

Dawn and Eldon Scott

Theresa P. > WOW! What an amazing day.

WOW! What an amazing day. Over 300 ATV’s, 90 Horses, and 130 Walkers, great weather, great news coverage and FANTASTIC PEOPLE! No event like this is pulled off without countless hours of time spent by so many volunteers. Time spend making trails, and organzing posters and trafic and food and the list goes on and on and on. Even more heartwarming were the number of people who wanted to help but we just didn’t have enough jobs to go around 🙂 So if you in anyway spent time to make this event possible we thank you from the bottom our hearts. The goal of this event was to continue to raise awareness that after 365 Maddy is still missing. I believe we did that – ♥ THANK YOU ♥ Continue reading »

The sun is shining, the horses and riders are on the trails, and some should be close to being finished. Volunteers have shucked 800 cobs of corn, are ready to cook and serve the hungry poker riders and walkers. The registration tables and check points are manned, and I can hear the sound of quads in the distance

. The let’s go all in to find maddy poker ride is on! Thanks to all the volunteers, supporters, and participants.

The following is a text I received from Sandra Maddy’s Aunt:
It might be a hard day, but it will be a good day. So many people coming to help and the weather is beautiful. Thinking of you all, my beautiful and great family. See you early tonight.

One year later, Madison Scott disappearance still a mystery (from PG Free Press)

Original article at the Prince George Free Press

“It has shaken the entire community of Vanderhoof.”

A long year has passed since Madison Scott disappeared from Hogsback Lake Forestry campsite, a year, for her family, filled with missed birthdays, a Christmas, Mothers Day and a graduation.

North District RCMP media liaison Const. Lesley Smith said that not only does Madison’s family have to deal every day with her disappearance, but so do all those who love her, her friends and the entire community.

Madison went to Hogsback Lake with a group of her friends intent on celebrating a birthday on Friday, May 27, 2011. She set up her two-toned blue tent and parked her white Chevy truck.

Everyone left to go home at about 3 a.m.

Madison stayed.

She has not been seen since.

When she wasn’t home by Sunday afternoon police were notified and headed out to the lake. There Madison’s tent and truck were found, but she was not. The family immediately turned to social media and networking sites, trying to find Madison or locate someone who knew where she was. Very soon after that volunteers and Search and Rescue headed out to the site and an intensive search began. The area was combed by people on foot and ATV’s and the lake was searched with sonar.

“She’s not in the lake and there was a thorough search of the area,” Smith said. “We believe either she has been taken, or she’s in the area and we just need to find her.”

Though sure her disappearance was not a misadventure, there is a vast forest surrounding the area. Smith said one thing people heading out to camp, fish or hike right now could do is simply be aware of their surroundings. If something looks or smells suspicious, go and investigate why. Walk in areas where you commonly would not

. Check ditches. Watch for birds congregating or colours that seem out of place.

“If you find something, contact the RCMP. Note the coordinates if you have a GPS,” Smith said. “Wherever you are outdoors, keep in mind Madison Scott is missing.”

Police also believe someone knows something about Madison’s disappearance though that person might not even be aware of it or think it’s a small insignificant detail.

“The family as well as the RCMP know there is somebody out there who has information or has it and doesn’t know it who can help us with the investigation,” Smith said.

Getting that information, no matter how insignificant it might seen, may well add the missing puzzle piece in the investigation.

The case, she said, relies heavily on witnesses, people who possibly have been too afraid to come forward.

“We encourage anyone who remembers the smallest detail to come forward. It could lead us in the right direction”

She said the police even need to rule out the rumours. They need to hear from the person who had the piece of information rather than a third person.

The RCMP continues to be involved with the family and the entire Major Crimes Unit is working the case. The family recently increased the award money.

A re-enactment video has been prepared to bring awareness to party goes at the location and is available on the RCMP website.

Wow, the trails are impressive and ready for the anniversary poker ride event taking place this coming Saturday, May 26, at Hogsback Lake.

The amazing quad trail is a fun ride and takes about 2 hours. The picturesque horseback trail features a longer loop and a shorter loop (4 hours or less). The serene walking trail has a more adventurous version or you can stick to the road in parts for a less challenging version (3 hours or less). All three trails have spectacular views and feature forest and open areas. Each trail is well marked and there will be volunteers to help direct people.

Hats off to all of the Team Maddy members who have sweated and muscled their way through the brush to open up or refurbish these trails. We are so grateful to the participants this coming weekend who will take a fresh look at these trails and the area and hopefully notice something of significance that will help bring Maddy home.

Note: This is an awareness event and not a fundraiser. There will be prizes awarded, as is usual at these types of events

. Hope you win something. We hope we get Maddy home. Thank you! See you out there!
